Teaching and Learning - Visual Arts

At Lancefield Primary School students are involved in an hour session of Visual Arts each week. The students create visual art works that communicate and express ideas, providing them with the opportunity to explore and expand their understanding of their world. Through Visual Arts, students make and respond using visual arts knowledge, engaging them in a journey of discovery, experimentation and problem-solving relevant to visual perception and visual language. They learn about the role of the artist and designer as well as the relationships between the viewer and artworks. Learning in the Visual Arts leads students to become increasingly confident and proficient in achieving their personal visual aesthetic, appreciating and valuing that of others.

P/1A & P/1W

This term our Prep and One students will be developing their sculpting skills. They will be learning different techniques to create strong and lasting sculptures. They will have numerous opportunities to experiment with a range of moulding mediums. The Prep and One students will experiment with planning and developing their own sculptures.

2/3J & 2/3E

During Term 4 the 2/3s will be busy experimenting with water in art. They will experiment with different paper and how the base for their art can affect their final piece. The 2/3s will experiment with water colour paints and pencils and investigate water resistant mediums. They will plan and create one final art work using a water medium of their choosing.

3/4A, 4/5M & 5/6W

To finish off the year the three classes will plan and develop a piece of art for the school environment. They will use a range of new and recycled materials to create their art work. Students are able to work independently or in pairs for this project. Towards the end of the term we will install their pieces in the school yard.

This term each class created a piece of ‘Chook Art’ for the Lancefield Agricultural Show and will be helping to create a Christmas tree installation. A big congratulations to Georgia Ricci for winning 1st prize and Clair Mustey for winning a special artistic merit award in the Western Water Poster Competition.
