Health and Physical Education 

 

Lancefield Primary School provides a quality Health and Physical Education program for every student.  

 

It is designed to prepare students for a healthy and active lifestyle through the development of skills, knowledge, teamwork and positive attitudes.


Our Health and Physical Education Program provides students with a wide range of physical and sporting experiences focusing on the sequential development of fundamental motor and loco-motor skills, sport specific skills, fitness and various team and individual sports. Swimming and Water Safety Programs are also offered to all students to participate in.

 

All students compete in our School Athletics and Cross Country Carnivals for their Houses during Terms 1 & 2.  On House Sports Days, students are encouraged to wear clothing in their House colours.  

The four Houses are:

  • Mount Macedon (Blue House)
  • Cobaw (Green House)
  • Mount William (Yellow House)
  • Melbourne (Red House)

 

Senior students are also able to gain selection into various District sports.  These include:

  • Cross Country
  • Athletics
  • Summer Sports (Volleyball, Tee Ball and Cricket)
  • Tennis
  • Orienteering
  • Basketball

 

Term 3

P/1A & P/1W

This term the Prep/1 students will continue to develop their understanding of rules and boundaries of more complex games. They will apply their throwing, catching and dribbling skills, and learn to solve movement challenges. The students also will be focusing on getting along with other students positively when involved in team, paired and individual activities. All students in P/1 will have the opportunity to be involved in the swimming program, and will explore movement and dancing.

 

2/3J & 2/3E

Throughout this term the grade 2/3 students will engage with a range of activities and games that aim to improve on interacting positively with others, and how to work in a team. Students will start to apply their throwing, catching and bouncing skills to minor games and investigate how to use these skills in invasion games. Grade 2 students will have the opportunity to participate in the swimming program at the start of term. Dancing and movement will also be explored.

 

3/4A, 4/5M & 5/6W

 

During Term three P.E sessions will be introduced to major games soccer, basketball and hockey with a strong focus on improving skills including passing, dribbling, shooting and tactical plays. All lessons will have a strong emphasis on personal goal setting, teamwork and the You Can Do it key of “Getting Along”. The Grade 5 and 6 students will also be able to trial and participate in the District Basketball day and the District Athletics held in Bendigo. Parents are welcomed to attend to support on the days.
